The Future of Water at Home – 50L Home LA Pilot Project

USGBC-LA has partnered with the 50L Home Coalition, convened by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the World Economic Forum (WEF), to accelerate water innovations in water-stressed cities. Sponsored by private sector leaders, these commitments include funding for a pilot to demonstrate water and energy innovations in homes in the greater Los Angeles region.

50L Home is a global coalition that strives to make 50 liters (13 gallons) of daily water use per person a new reality. To accomplish their goals, they bring together both public and private sector organizations to develop and scale innovations in residential water and energy use.

Through the 50L Home Coalition, Electrolux, IKEA, Kohler Co., and Procter & Gamble are joining forces with USGBC-LA to implement a demonstration pilot in Los Angeles. This unique effort to integrate solutions from different market leaders will demonstrate how existing and new innovations can achieve substantial savings in both domestic water and energy consumption. After identifying thirty participants, USGBC-LA will work directly to retrofit their homes with point-of-use metering for both hot and cold water as well as energy monitoring. In addition, USGBC-LA will develop the framework to engage participants toward the cumulative goal of driving down water use holistically.
