In 2013, Los Angeles was selected as an inaugural member of the 100 Resilient Cities Network. This global network, pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, helps member cities around the world become more resilient to the physical, social, and economic challenges of the 21st century. Since then, Angelenos have come together to develop Resilient Los Angeles, a strategy by and for Angelenos that leverages the city’s strengths and advances new partnerships in order to prepare Los Angeles to address current and future challenges. The Campus Resilience Challenge Fellow will work with the Mayor’s Office of Resilience on implementing Resilient Los Angeles programs, and specifically the Campus Resilience Challenge (Action #23) the Fellow will perform a variety of tasks, which may involve policy research and development, program development and coordination, development of written and online communication, community engagement activities, drafting memoranda and briefs, and administrative tasks. Interns will need to commit to 25-35 hours a week for 10 weeks beginning in June, with all work performed in the office. This is a position is a paid hourly position.
SALARY: $15/hour; max 35 hours/week over 10 weeks
Prospective Fellows shall be undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates of college or master’s program. A background in public policy, urban planning, or local government with interests in resilience, sustainability, and economic development are desirable. Ideal candidates must be able to communicate well, display a record of academic achievement, demonstrate a commitment to public service, and maintain a high standard of ethics and integrity in a work environment.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or degree in progress) in public policy, urban planning, environmental science or a closely related field.
- Interest in urban resilience and community engagement with an enthusiasm for program development
- Exceptional oral and written communications
- Outstanding research and analytical skills
- Detail oriented, organized with strong administrative abilities
- Demonstrated maturity to work successfully in a professional and fast-paced setting
- Strong computer literacy
- Ability to take initiative and perform excellent work with minimal supervision
