Join us as we virtually tour the LEED v4 BD+C Gold certified - Sheila Kuehl Wellness Center! Hear from a variety of speakers and participate in a Q&A session. This 15,000-square foot design-build project is a new, single-story mental health building that includes a waiting area, reception area, business offices, counseling rooms, cubical spaces, conference rooms, and group therapy rooms.

 

 

      

 

 

About the Presenters

Ben Stapleton, Executive Director, USGBC-LA

Ben Stapleton is an LA native who brings a creative mind and consultative approach to a wide range of projects with a focus on building teams and designing programs to deliver impactful results. His current work is based on coordinating an ecosystem leveraging the built environment as the entry point and connective fabric to help create a more sustainable society for all as Executive Director for the U.S. Green Building Council - Los Angeles

Rebecca Ramsdale, LEED Consultant, Verdical Group

Rebecca is a Senior Project Manager at Verdical Group, overseeing a variety of high-performance buildings and material transparency projects. She guides projects through schematic design, feasibility assessments, design iterations, the construction process, and closeout to achieve the client's sustainability goals. Her background experience includes civil engineering, natural science, general contracting, construction estimating, and project engineering through education at Loyola Marymount University and General Contracting work. Rebecca enjoys connecting with the community through her various volunteering organizations serving as the USGBC-LA Long Beach Branch Vice-Chair, LMU CIP Mentorship Committee Leader, and the Living Future Los Angeles (LFLA) Steering Committee and LFLA Zero Carbon co-leader.

 

Wendell Ewing, Commissioning Agent, Verdical Group

Wendell is Director of Commissioning at Verdical Group. He has 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering services, commissioning, and project management, and holds a Professional Engineer (PE) designation and CxA. Wendell’s project experience includes commercial office, municipal, utility, and K-12 / higher education.

At Verdical Group, Wendell leads our building commissioning projects, including CALGreen Code Commissioning, LEED Fundamental Commissioning and LEED Enhanced Commissioning services. Wendell’s expertise includes commissioning, HVAC, controls, energy auditing, M&V, facility management, and energy conservation measure (ECM) identification.

He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois.


Daniel Bise, Architect, SWA

As Principal Architect at SWA, Dan Bise works directly with public and private stakeholders, from facility directors and hospital staff to developers and community members, taking them from planning and conceptual design through construction administration. Mr. Bise has overseen delivery of numerous healthcare projects, ranging from complex hospital additions and renovations to high tech medical office buildings and residential facilities. 

Over 24 years at SWA, Mr. Bise has provided detailed planning, design and project management expertise, shepherding projects through complex regulatory environments, all while providing creative design solutions responsive to client needs. With his extensive knowledge of healthcare and mental health facilities design, code and LEED requirements and experience working with OSHPD, Mr. Bise employs valuable process knowledge essential to the timely realization of quailty built environments.


Teresa Fait, General Contractor, Abbot Construction

Teresa Fait brings a unique background of both design and construction experience to her role as an Abbott Construction Project Manager. With her education in the field of architecture, Teresa’s work in the AEC industry was established in the realm of design, conducting LEED certification and construction administration for a notable architectural design firm. Teresa synthesized this experience with the construction industry, applying her expertise to complex projects including multi-story renovation and ground-up projects for healthcare and higher education clients.  In addition to Project Manager duties, Teresa continues to provide comprehensive LEED and environmental support for Abbott’s construction projects, helping to identify more quality, cost effective, and sustainable ways to build. Teresa holds a BFA in Environmental from Otis College of Art and Design and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.


James Del Monaco, Mechanical - Electrical - Plumbing Engineer, P2S Inc.

James Del Monaco has over 18 years of mechanical engineering design experience, focusing on sustainability. He earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and is a licensed mechanical engineer as well as certified as a Commission Authority and a LEED Accredited Professional. He is an Associate Principal at P2S Inc. in Long Beach.
