Get certified in Wildfire Defense Best Practices for Contractors!
About this event
The USGBC-LA Wildfire Defense Professional Certificate program was developed to educate contractors and landscapers on how to best harden homes and landscapes to fires through the use of materials, maintenance practices, and firewise design practices known to reduce properties’ risk of fire damage. The contractors’ module is focused on educating contractors about firewise best practices and creating cultural change within the building industry.
The Wildfire Defense Professional Certificate for Contractor’s module is a 150-minute training followed by certification testing to be taken online. The training highlights existing resources with a focus on home hardening, and best practices to reduce fire risk in homes, while providing participants with real-world examples and strategies for wildfire resiliency, including but not limited to the following topics:
- Understanding Wildfire
- Think Home First
- Defensible Space Zones
- Home Hardening Strategies
- Case Studies
- Home Assessments
- Post-Fire Recovery
- Importance of community organizing for safety, preparedness, and funding opportunities
