Menu of Efficiency and Electrification
Building Owners and Managers: Begin your building’s sustainability journey through the Green Housing Pathways Menu
The Menu of Efficiency and Electrification outlines 3 project pathways owners can take to improve the performance, comfort, and affordability of their multifamily properties. USGBC-LA has also put an emphasis on providing resources for building owners located in disadvantaged communities and low-income neighborhoods that may require additional financial support to complete these projects.
Please read on to find out how you can start your green and healthy building project through the following pathways!
High Performance
This pathway focuses on building envelope improvements and energy efficiency upgrades for the largest energy uses in the average building
Set your building project’s foundation for the Electric Forward or All-Electric Pathway
Pathway Goals
- Return on investment
- Reducing onsite water consumption
- Meeting corporate sustainability mandates
- Protecting occupant health and improving comfort
- Minimize tenant complaints and turnover
- Improved resilience during extreme weather
- Minimize out-of-pocket costs
Upgrade Opportunities
- Insulation in walls, attics, and crawl spaces
- High-performance windows
- High-performance faucets and showerheads
- LED lighting
- And more
Electric Forward
This pathway builds on the building and efficiency improvements from the High Performance Pathway. The focus of the Electric Forward pathway is on beginning to electrify water heating and preparing the electrical infrastructure to handle the increased loads that come with the All Electric Pathway.
Pathway Goals
- Future-proofing against new solar and efficiency code requirements
- GHG reductions
- Improving the electrical system’s resilience
- Reducing risks of electrical fires and failures
- Increasing property value
Upgrade Opportunities
- Tankless water heaters
- Electrical panel upgrades
- Preparing your roof for solar
- And more
All Electric
This pathway builds on the improvements made under the High-Performance and Electric Forwrad Pathways. The All Electric Pathwayocuses on maximizing the return on investment from operating a high-performance building by fully electrifying all systems, adding onsite renewable energy generation and electric vehicle charging for another source of revenue.
Pathway Goals
- Maximizing return on investment from your building projects
- Drastic reductions of onsite GHG emissions
- Increasing property value
- Take advantage of attractive state and federal tax incentives before they sunset
- Pursue sustainable design certification(s)
- Jobs creation
- Transportation electrification as another revenue stream
Upgrade Opportunities
- Heat pump HVAC systems
- Heat pump water heaters
- Electric vehicle charging
- Solar panels
- And more
