Menu of Efficiency and Electrification
Building Owners and Managers: Continue your building’s sustainability journey
The Efficiency and Electrification Project Pathways menu presents three options that multi-family property owners can explore to enhance the efficiency, comfort, and cost-effectiveness of their buildings. This menu highlights resources for buildings categorized by system type, including utility programs, rebates, incentives, and financing opportunities.
High Performance
This pathway focuses on building envelope improvements and energy efficiency upgrades that target reducing the largest energy uses in the average building.
Set your building project’s foundation for the Electric-Forward or All-Electric Pathway.
Pathway Goals
- Return on investment
- Reduce onsite water consumption
- Meet corporate sustainability mandates
- Protect occupant health and improve comfort
- Minimize tenant complaints and turnover
- Improve resilience during extreme weather
- Minimize out-of-pocket costs
Upgrade Opportunities
- Insulation in walls, attics, and crawl spaces
- High-performance windows
- High-performance faucets and showerheads
- LED lighting
- High-efficiency water heating
- And more
Electric-Forward
This pathway builds on the building and efficiency improvements from the High-Performance Pathway. The focus of the Electric-Forward Pathway is on preparing the electrical infrastructure to handle the increased loads that come with the All-Electric Pathway.
Pathway Goals
- Future-proof against new solar and efficiency code requirements
- Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
- Improve the electrical system’s resilience
- Reduce risks of electrical fires and failures
- Increase property value
Upgrade Opportunities
- Electrical panel upgrades
- Prepare roof for solar
- Prepare electrical distribution for the added loads of EV chargers
- Reservation of space for batteries
- Install property-level wifi network
- And more
All-Electric
This pathway builds on the improvements made under the High-Performance and Electric-Forward Pathways. The All-Electric Pathway focuses on maximizing the return on investment from operating a high-performance building by fully electrifying all systems, adding onsite renewable energy generation and storage, and adding electric vehicle charging for an additional source of revenue.
Pathway Goals
- Maximize return on investment
- Significantly reduce onsite greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
- Increase property value
- Take advantage of attractive state and federal tax incentives before they sunset
- Pursue sustainable design certification(s)
- Create jobs
- Electrify transportation as another revenue stream
Upgrade Opportunities
- Heat pump HVAC systems
- Heat pump water heating
- Electric vehicle charging
- Solar panels
- Battery storage
- And more
